മുച്ചിലോട്ട് ഭഗവതിയാണ് പ്രധാന ദേവത 

വാണിയരുടെകുലദൈവമായമുച്ചിലോട്ട് ഭഗവതി നിത്യകന്യകയാണെങ്കിലും ഭക്തരുടെ മാതാവാണ് ,സര്‍വരോഗ സംഹാരിണിയാണ്

 പെരിഞ്ചെല്ലുര്‍   ഗ്രാമത്തില്‍ ജനിച്ച ഒരു ബ്രാമണകന്യക സമുദായത്തില്‍ നിന്നും പുറത്താക്കപ്പെട്ടുഅലഞ്ഞ് തിരിഞ്ഞ് ഒടുവില്‍ കരിവള്ളുര്‍ ശിവക്ഷേത്രത്തിലും രയരമങ്ങലത്ത് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലും വന്ന് തൊഴുതു മടങ്ങി സ്വയം ഒരുക്കിയ അഗ്നിയില്‍ വിലയം പ്രാപിച്ചു  എന്നാണു ഈ ദേവതയെ കുറിച്ചുള്ള നാട്ടുപഴമ  

കണ്ണങ്ങാട്ട് ഭഗവതി,പുലിയൂര്‍ കാളി ,നരംബില്‍ ഭഗവതി, വിഷ്ണുമൂര്‍ത്തി തുടങ്ങിയ ദേവതകളും ഉണ്ട് . കൂടാളി താഴത്ത് വീട് കളരിയുടെ അതെ പഴക്കം ഭാരവാഹികള്‍ അവകാശപ്പെടുന്നു

വളരെക്കാലം അടച്ചിട്ട ക്ഷേത്രമായിരുന്നു. 30 വര്‍ഷങ്ങളായി  ക്ഷേത്ര അവകാശികളും നാട്ടുകാരും ചേര്‍ന്ന് ഉത്സവാദി കാര്യങ്ങളും മറ്റും നടത്തിവരുന്നു  ക്ഷേത്രം നവീകരിച്ച്‌ 2007 ഏപ്രില്‍ രണ്ടിന് പുന- പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നടത്തി .

ശിവക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ വടക്ക് വശത്തെ കാറ്റില്‍ വിറകു പൊറുക്കാന്‍ പോയ മുണ്ടയാടന്‍ ,പുളിയാകോടന്‍ എന്നി നായര്‍ തറവാടുകളിലെ സ്ത്രീകള്‍ കത്തി എന്തിലോ തട്ടി ചോര വരുന്നത് കണ്ടു പേടിച്ചു .മടങ്ങി പോകുമ്പോള്‍ ചവിട്ടടിപ്പാറ എന്നസ്ഥലത്ത് എത്തിയപ്പോള്‍ മുന്‍പില്‍ ഒരു ചാപധാരിയെ കാന്നുകയും ''ഞാന്‍ അമ്പ് എയ്യുത് കൊള്ളുന്ന്‍  സ്ഥലത്ത് ഒരു ക്ഷേത്രം  പണിയണം ''എന്ന് അധികാരത്തോടെ കല്പിച്ചു .ഉടന്‍ ചാപധാരി വായുവില്‍ മറഞ്ഞു അവരില്‍ നിന്നും വിവരം അറിഞ്ഞ കാരണവര്‍ ഒരു പ്രശ്നം വെച്ച് .തുടര്‍ന്ന് പ്രശ്നവശാല്‍  ചോര കണ്ട സ്ഥലത്ത്  ശാസ്താവിന്റെയും ഭഗവതിയുടെയും സാന്നിധ്യം ഉണ്ടെന്നും അവരെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കാന്‍ക്ഷേത്രം പണിയണമെന്നും  അത് വരെ അമ്പു തറച്ച മാവിന്‍ ചുവട്ടില്‍ പൂജ വേണമെന്നും വിധിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു   രക്തം കണ്ട മരത്തിനടുത്ത് ഭദ്രകാളിക്കായി വടക്കെക്കാവ്  നിര്‍മ്മിച്ചു

ചരിത്രപശ്ചാത്തലം മലബാറിലെ രണ്ടാമത്തെ കുറുമ്പക്ഷേത്രമാന്നു മാണിക്കകാവ്പയ്യംമ്പള്ളി ക്ഷേത്രം    മുന്‍പ് കസാനക്കോട്ടയില്‍ആയിരുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രം രണ്ടു നൂറ്റാണ്ട് മുന്‍പ് കണ്ണുക്കരയില്‍ മാറ്റി സ്ഥാപിച്ചു .ആയോധന കലകളില്‍ അതി നിപുണനും ദൈവികശക്തി  ആര്‍ജ്ജിച്ചയാളുമായ പയ്യമ്പള്ളി ഗുരുനാഥന്റെ പേരിലുള്ള ഏകക്ഷേത്രം കൂടിയാണിത് .

പയ്യമ്പള്ളി ഗുരുനാഥനും  തച്ചോളിഒതേനനും   

കിഴക്കില്‍ രാമന്‍ എന്നയാള്‍ ഞാലി വയലിലെ ഒരു വീട്ടില്‍ ചുണ്ണാമ്പ് 
പൂശാന്‍ പോയപ്പോള്‍ അവിടെ ഒരു പീഠം കണ്ടു അത് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനു തരാമോ എന്ന് ചോദിച്ചപ്പോള്‍ വീട്ടുകാര്‍ സമ്മതിച്ചു.പണി കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോള്‍ അയാള്‍ ആ പീഠം ക്ഷേത്രത്തില്‍ എത്തിച്ചു  എന്നാല്‍ പ്രശ്നം വെച്ചപ്പോള്‍ അത് ഉപയോഗിക്കരുത്  അതില്‍    ഗുരുനാഥന്റെ    സാന്നിധ്യം ഉണ്ടെന്നും  മനസ്സിലായി  പീഠം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ തെക്ക് പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചു.  അങ്ങിനെയാന്നു കുറുംബക്കാവ് പയ്യംമ്പള്ളിക്ഷേത്രം ആയത്‌.   

പയ്യമ്പള്ളി ഗുരുനാഥന്‍ തെയ്യം 

എല്ലാ വെള്ളിയാഴ്ചയും ,സംക്രമ ദിവസങ്ങളിലുംപയ്യംമ്പള്ളിഗുരുനാഥന്റെ വെള്ളാട്ടം ഇവിടെ നടക്കുന്നു ക്ഷേത്ര ഉത്സവത്തിനു കുറുംബ ഭഗവതി ,കുണ്ടാടി ചാമുണ്ടി ,ഗുളികന്‍, കുറത്തി എന്നി തെയ്യങ്ങളും കൂടാതെ ഒതേനന്‍ ഗുരുനാഥന്‍ എന്നി വരുടെ തെയ്യവും പയറ്റും ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കും 

കേട്ടുകേള്‍വി  കുറേക്കാലം മുന്‍പ് എതാനും ചെറുപ്പക്കാര്‍  ഇതിന്റെ പരിസരത്ത് വെച്ച് ഒരു പോത്തിനെ അറുത്തു ഓഹരിവെച്ചു. ചോര ക്ഷേത്ര മുറ്റത്തും വീഴാനിടയായി അന്ന് തന്നെ അവരുടെ കുടുംബത്തില്‍ ഒരോരാള്‍ക്കായി വസൂരി  പിടിച്ചു തുടങ്ങി .കുറെ കഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടു .അവസാനം വളര്‍പട്ടണത്ത് ഉള്ള സിദ്ധനെ കണ്ടു .അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ നിര്‍ദ്ദേശ പ്രകാരം പരിഹാര ക്രിയകള്‍ ചെയ്തു രോഗ പീഡകളില്‍നിന്നും മുക്തി നേടി .അതിനു ശേഷം ആ പരിസരം വൃത്തിയായി വെക്കാന്‍ എല്ലാവരും ശ്രമിക്കാറുണ്ട്.

The Myth Ladies of two nair tharavaatuus used to collect fire woods from the forest on the north eastern side of the siva temple.The sickle of one of the ladies came in contact with some thing,which she could not rember,but she noticed that blood gushed out of the bush.Frightened by this strange phenomenon the two women while returning home met a hunter with bow and arrows at a place known as Chavittatippara.He ordered them that a temple has to be built for him where the arrow would fall and disappeared.

The arrow fell beneath a mango tree close to the siva temple.Now at the south west corner,  at the foot of the mango tree, the moolasthaana of lord saastha ,the weapon of sree saastha is kept

They returned home and reported this matter to elders.A prasnam was then held.It was revealed therein  that powers of Lord saasththa and goddess bhagavathi had manifested at the place where blood was seen.On the advice of the thantri of Karumaaraththu illam,poojas were conducted  till the temple was built

TheTemple was constructed at the south western side of the lord Siva temple,and the west of the mango tree.

At the  place where the blood gushed out,a small shrine calledAVATAKKEKKAAVU for Sree bhadrakaali(Vanadurga)

The VanaDurga temple is now in ruins

Though the first temple is of lord siva the temple is known as Sree dharma saasthatemple.The temple was taken over by the H.R&C.E IN 1949

 There is also a sthaanam for Thampuran Thrikkovilappan,at the southeastern side of the valiyambalam of the saastha shrine.

The structure of the temple complex include 2sreekovilsboth having namaskaaramandapam and chuttambalam and seperate compound wall.On the top of the sopanam there are wodden carvings of figurines of lord siva and vishnu in disguise as mohini

The sankalpam of the diety is in full preparation for a fight.

Theerththattu Ponmala Cave temple Kuttiyaattoor

Root:- 18kms from kannur. In the kannur-Mattanur/Irritty bus root chaalode stop.In the chalode-Mayyil root uruvachaal stop .From here 1k m on the top of the hill ponmala.

It takes 10 minuts on foot to reach the Cave temple

There are 3 narrow rooms The swayambhoo idol of Sree Ganapathi is in the second room.

Root:- 18kms southeast of kannur .In the kannur-otakkadavu bus root  Makrerimbalam stop.

  

Brief historyIt is a very ancient temple and of the same period as that of Peralasseritemple.It is believed that sree Hanumaan installed the present idol .The devotees still feel the presence of Hanumaan in this temple.As markkata (monkey) installed the idol,the place came to be known as Markkatasseri for many centuries and in course of time shortened as Makreri. The temple was ransacked by Tippus force. 

The2 idols of subramanyaswami has4 arms

There are 3 mahaavishnu idols all are broken 

 Time of worship 5.30am-1000am and 5.30pm-8.30pm 

OFFERINGS AVALNIVEDYAM,SHARKKARAPPAAYASAM-

The temple tank is considered sacred since as per myth Lord Hanumaan dug the tank with his tale

Festivals   Thaipooyam in Makaram is celebrated

with special poojaas 

Thantri is from the Eruvessi illam and shaanthikkaaran is hereditary
